Lúnastal Event

Lùnastal is the Scottish Gaelic name for the month of August, but also for the celebration of the first harvest.

It marks the period of the year when the summer energy has passed its peak, during June and especially July, and although we are still in a period full of sunshine we are approaching, day by day, the end of the reign of the sun.

Also known as Lammas or Lughnasa, it is traditionally a time when the fields begin to harvest the wheat, which floods the landscape like a sea of gold, to start processing it into various foods and products: bread, beer, whisky…

We also find different types of wild fruits among the forest thickets, and some fruits start to be ready to be harvested. It is a period of abundance, where the land offers the fruits that have been cultivated during the rest of the year.

Summer is also a time when, in general, people go out more, where life happens outdoors as the weather is more suitable, the heat, the light and more free time for most people makes people socialise more, and get together more.

The harvest is a perfect excuse to celebrate banquets, get together with loved ones and be thankful for all that we have achieved in the first part of the year.

Agents of Magick want to celebrate this special date with you, so we have prepared an event to connect with this moment we are living. For the occasion, we will gather in a very special place:

The Museum of Magic, Fortune-telling and Witchcraft of Edinburgh.

2 Chalmers Close, High Street, EH1 1SS, Edinburgh

We will explore the folklore of Lùnastal, share songs and visions of celebration, how the changes in the world are changing the wheel of the year; We will also share a brew suitable for the season, and if you wish to bring beer or any other beverage made from grain, you are welcome to do so.

The whole event itself will be a ceremony to honour the gods who offer themselves through wheat as food.

We are going to thank them for their annual sacrifice as it keeps us alive.
After the event Tarot readings and other methods of divination will be offered.

It is a small space, so it is advisable to buy a ticket in advance if you want to secure your place, if you pre-book the price is £5, on the day of the event it will be £7.

The ticket can also be bought in person at the museum the days before the event.

The event will start at 7 PM on the 12th of August, we look forward to seeing you.
